Beryl Carbon
The late Beryl Carbon was born in New Orleans where her love of art began. In the early 70's she moved to the small town of Mandeville Louisiana where she and her husband raised a family of six children on a small farm which included cows, chickens and a small fishing pond. During her younger years in New Orleans, Beryl began to sketch and paint and immersed herself in anything having to do with art. She was offered an art scholarship to Loyola University but as fate would have it, she not only fell in love with art but also happen to fall in love with her husband, Bernard. They married in 1956 and began a family- art would have to wait. Longing for the art education that she left behind in her younger years, Beryl enrolled into Southeastern Louisiana University where she earned a BA in art in 1989. After graduation, Beryl began to teach "Art at the Farm" through the St. Tammany Art Association. Not only did Beryl love art but she loved children. This gave way to Beryl becoming one of the first "Artists in Residence" in the St. Tammany Parish public schools system where she taught art to students in several elementary schools. "My Art reflects my interest in nature and the living creatures that surround us.
