Luz-Maria Lopez

Luz-Maria Lopez, a Honduran-born artist, came to this country to study and graduated as a Bilingual Secretary in 1966.  After working for many years and raising a family, she went back to school and, in1995, received her Bachelor of Arts degree, Magna Cum Laude, from Southeastern Louisiana University at Hammond, Louisiana.

Lopez's work was selected for display in "Trophies of Honor," a project hosted by the Griffith University of Queensland, Australia and Mississippi State University. The project's mission was to "chronicle and preserve native culture and art."

She has participated in numerous group and solo shows nationally, including the Meadows Museum at Centenary College, LA; Alexandria Museum of Art, LA;  Imperial Calcasieu Museum, LA.; Museum of Latin American Art, CA;  Mobile Museum of Art, AL.; Hunter Museum of American Art, TN., and in the 2007 Art Kudos International Competition.  Her work is collected internationally.

"Seldom do an artist's background, culture, interests and history stand out so quickly in their work as in the art creations of Luz Maria Lopez. Lopez brings a rich historical and cultural tapestry to her pieces that shout the legends and colors and smells and history of her ancestral lands. It is work rich with narrative interest and intelligent composition. In these pieces, the legacy of the past jumps to the immediacy of the present, and yet manages to leave a brilliant artistic footprint for the future."
